Toto, we’re really not in Kansas anymore…

Believe it or not, I sometimes I forget that I’m in Australia.

Sure it’s about 26°C/79°F right now, when back home it’s about 10°C/50°F (sorry guys). And, sure, the people speak sort of funny (but cool) and I still have trouble understanding them. And yes, it’s totally weird and freaky to drive on the left side of the road. But maybe life just becomes such a routine that the surroundings don’t really matter.

But when you’re driving along a road and see this:

GC Hinterland

Instead of this:

401 hwy

And on the roads you see this:

Kangaroo Xing

Instead of this:

Deer Xing

You realize, something is a tad off…

  1. Our Aussie trip got postponed to next year due to year end budget/travel restrictions. I hope you’re still around then!

  2. I have to say thats….pretty darn wicked! And hey…where are the pics of the Kangaroos and Koalas?!? You’ve been there for how long now and no pics of them? I’m pretty sure I didn’t miss it….did I?

  3. Zen - I’ll still be here! I’m here until about April 2009 :)

GeekiSiddiqui - no pics of kangaroos or koalas - I haven’t seen any yet! They’re mostly in wildlife zoos, or as you can see, near the hinterland areas where I’m not so close too. I will try to get to either place before I get home.

  4. cool stuff. The 401 looks pretty trafficy, but that has to be the west end, look at all that empty land!!! hehe.

In defence, you should ask GS for a pic of a moose or deer :P

  5. Your highway view is much cooler than ours! BTW, when you’re back don’t drive on the DVP. Its cursed.

  6. I wouldn’t mind any of them except driving on the left side - that is so weird still! :-D

I have one burning question - is kangaroo halal?

  7. I see that Mezba’s hungry lol.
    “26°C” *sigh*

It’s supposed to snow here tonight :S

  8. Hi Deeja. I’m still here. Your #1 fan. But maybe you gave that position to someone else by now :( But I read your blog all the time, I promise! I just don’t comment. I’m sorry. I’m sad I missed you when you were here in the summer.

Hope you’re taking care of yourself. And if you’re not…why not?!?!?!? You should be!

    Ok, bye. :p

  9. loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool Hillarious! :D

  10. You lucky duck!!!!! 26 degrees sounds like a piece of Heaven right about now….. enjoy it while you can..

How many days left misto??? 23?? YAYYYYY!!!!!

  11. you so funny!! lol

  12. that’s pretty amazing. i’m going to have to add Austrailia to the list of places i want to visit now!

  13. Mousehunter - I do think it is the West end, but I’m bad with directions and anything geography related so I’ll take your word for it! And YES it’s like when people ask us if we live in igloos and amongst caribou when people get asked about koala here!

    Ruby - I think it’s always been cursed :S

Mezba - Just today I saw ‘kangaroo steaks’ in the grocery store, I didn’t even think that people ate kangaroo!! I just searched online and the general consensus seems to be that since kangaroos are herbivores, as long as they’re slaughtered appropriately, the meat is halal. Still, I’m no so adventurous as to find out any more details for you.

Liya - I heard about the snow/ice storm recently…deep down I really do feel bad for you. On the surface, not so much :P

Rooooooohiiiiiiiii - my dearest no one can knock you down from #1! You don’t need to comment lol. I’ll be home in 3 weeks so don’t you worry, we’ll get to see each other soon enough. And I’m taking care of myself as best as possible :)

    UM - thanks ;)

    Sarah - 22 now!!!

    YM - why, thank you.

Hema - Definitely add it to your list. It’s absolutely beautiful and great things to do and see!

  14. hey, i tagged you!

  15. Better late than never eh? ;)

  16. Knocking us down on the weather, eh mate?

Oh man I am so jealous of your 26 degrees now… especially since I wasted half an hour trying to GET INTO MY CAR!!!

Enjoy… er… why would you want to come here for the break? Why not have the rest of the family join you?

  17. you lucky girl ! I live in the Uk sunchine is a rare case even in summer !
I always wanted to go to Australia just to go sightseeing , and see the nature . have fun while your their hun .

  18. Haha, “is kangaroo halal”. It can be if you can catch it and slaughter it without getting beaten up by a kangaroo…hehe.

  19. Thanks for clarifying the kangaroo thing! I was serious… I really want to try some ‘roo burger next time I am in that area!

  20. Hema - thanks! Will do it soon!

    Sumera - always!

Haleem - I tried, they can’t get away and they came here in May. Tickets are really expensive too. Ahhh but what do you do, I can’t wait to come home to see everyone thought!

Amal - You should definitely put it on your list of places to visit. It’s absolutely beautiful and lots to see and do.

Mousehunter - LOL - that’s exactly it. I wonder how they manage to do it though…

Mezba - I’m told it’s actually pretty good - sort of like beef, with a bit of a tough texture. But apparently, it’s also a bit smelly. Let me know how it goes!
